Pärnu: Travel Guidelines

Getting to Pärnu

Parnu (Pärnu) is a small town located on the western coast of Estonia. It is about 130 km from Tallinn and 180 km from Riga. Since there is no international airport in Parnu, you need to either:

  1. Fly to Tallinn, Tartu, or Riga and then take a bus to Parnu.
  2. Fly to Helsinki or Stockholm, take a ferry to Tallinn, and then a bus to Parnu.

Travelling from Riga to Parnu:
There are several buses that go straight from Riga Airport to Parnu Bus Station, but there are also many buses that go from Riga Bus Station to Parnu Bus Station. Timetables and tickets can be found on LuxExpress or Ecolines websites. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance.

In order to get from Riga Airport to city centre you need to take bus no. 22. To get on the bus at the airport look for bus stop located opposite the terminal behind the car park P1. Journey time about 30 minutes. A regular ticket for one trip can be bought from the bus stop at the airport or the driver. Information about bus timetables can be found here.

You can also take a taxi from the airport to the bus station. Riga city and other destinations from the airport can be reached using SIA “Baltic Taxi Lidosta” and AS “Rīgas Taksometru parks” (Red Cab) cabs.

Travelling from Tallinn to Parnu:
When travelling to Tallinn by air, the easiest way to get from the airport (Tallinna Lennujaam) to bus station is by taxi. Attention! In order to avoid any unpleasant experiences with taxis, the airport recommends that you only use their partner taxis waiting at the official taxi park of the airport.

Another possibility is to take bus no. 2 from the airport to Tallinn Bus Station (Tallinna Bussijaam). The airport bus stops are located on the ground floor in front of the passenger terminal, timetable. Journey time about 10 minutes. A regular ticket for one trip can be bought from the bus driver (cash only).

From Tallinn Bus Station many buses go to Parnu every day. Timetables and tickets can be found on Tpilet, Superbus and SimpleExpress websites. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance.

Travelling from Tartu to Parnu:
When you fly into Tartu then take the AirportShuttle bus to the Tartu bus station. The ticket is 5 euros and the bus departs soon after each flight. From Tartu Bus Station many buses go to Parnu every day. Timetables and tickets can be found on Tpilet, Superbus and SimpleExpress websites. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance.

Travelling from Tallinn to Parnu:
When travelling to Tallinn by ferry, there is a bus that goes straight from Tallink D-Terminal to Parnu Bus Station. Timetable and tickets can be found here. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance.

If there are no suitable buses from Tallinn Harbour to Parnu, it is possible to take a bus from Tallinn Bus Station (Tallinna Bussijaam) to Parnu. To get from the harbour to Tallinn Bus Station, you can take bus no. 2 from Terminal A or Terminal D, timetable. A regular ticket for one trip can be bought from the bus driver (cash only).

Another possibility is to take a taxi from the harbour to the bus station. Before sitting in a cab be sure you understand the approximate cost of the trip. Prices are not uniform; taxi operators can set their own rates. Take a close look at the yellow price list, which is posted on the right side rear door. Make sure the taxi driver holds an operator’s card – a white plastic card with the driver’s photo and name, attached to the middle of the dashboard.

When starting out make sure the taximeter is turned on. The driver is not allowed to charge more than indicated on the meter. The driver must be paid in Euros. Ask the taxi driver for a receipt from the meter’s printer. If the meter or printer is out of order, the driver should not be in service and you have the right to refuse from paying the fare.

Getting Around in Pärnu

Pärnu is a relativly small place, so almost everything you need is within walking distance.
When arriving to Pärnu Bus Station then you can easily get a taxi from the station to your hotel. Or take a bus to your destination, timetables and routes are available online. Buses that you can use to reach the conference venue Hotel Strand are: 1A-I, 7, 7A, 7B, 8, 9, 15, 16, 17, and 21.

Travelling from Pärnu

You can get a bus from Pärnu to Tallinn, Tartu or Riga. For Estonian routes: timetables and tickets can be found on Tpilet, Superbus and SimpleExpress websites. Be sure to buy your ticket in advance.
